Catch Flights, Not Feelings
On this episode of The Unengaged Podcast, we’re diving into the vacations that shaped us—from surprise mommy-and-me cruises to absolute disasters in Cabo. Kay shares the story of a trip that changed everything, and breaks down her Bahamas cruise, plus tips for traveling solo, with kids, or in chaotic friend groups. We’re talking vacation do’s and don’ts, red flag travel partners, and how to elevate your trip without breaking the bank. Kodie talks Disney, and the impact your company can have on the "Happiest place on Earth". Basically: it’s not about where you go—it’s who you go with... or don’t.
So this week we're going to be talking to you about vacations.
SPEAKER_02:Yes, vacations, like tip, tricks. We're going to be sharing some stories about some of our favorite and most terrible vacations we've gone on.
SPEAKER_00:Because Lord knows we've been through them all. Yep, we've been through them all. So, I mean, yeah, like, you know, have you ever taken a trip that has completely changed your life? Right? I think, I don't know, for me, I've been on a ton of trips that I could say actively have like changed my life either in a good way or. Or a bad way. Some in a bad way. Some have like, you know, really like started a lot of things and some have ended some things. Right.
SPEAKER_02:Yes. Yes. So which should we start with? I
SPEAKER_00:mean. Well, okay. Let's give everybody the true inspo behind this episode. Yeah. Kaylee, you just went on an amazing trip. Tell everybody about it.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. So I just went on a trip to the Bahamas with my son. We went on a cruise. The cruise was a four-day cruise, but we flew into Miami and we stayed for a night and then we stayed for a night the day after our cruise as well.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, really? I didn't even realize that you did that. Yeah. Oh. She was just gone forever. I never pay that much attention. I'm just like, when are you coming home? Yeah. When are you leaving? And did you make
SPEAKER_02:it safe? Okay,
SPEAKER_00:you're
SPEAKER_02:good. Are you alive?
SPEAKER_00:Okay, I
SPEAKER_02:can
SPEAKER_00:see your location. Yeah. I know. It was actually kind of weird. I think I sent something in one of our group chats where all three of us We're in like different corners of the world, it seemed like at one point. And I was like, I don't feel good about this. She's like,
SPEAKER_02:I don't like how all these bubbles are so spread out because our friend.
SPEAKER_00:You know, the find my friends. It was like, I don't like that I have to zoom out so far to see you guys in one little screen. But I think I just had FOMO, to be honest, because I was the only one back at home.
SPEAKER_02:That's understandable. I always get FOMO whenever like you guys go places and I'm like stuck in Hollister. So I feel it. But yeah, you guys. I just kind of wanted to recap the trip a little bit because it was so amazing. Um, especially if you have kids, I highly recommend you guys surprise them with a trip. Like that's kind of what I did. Don't tell them about it. Wake them up the morning of bag already packed, surprise them. I mean that element of surprise, you guys, that energy, um, this trip I took with my son, my seven year old son, and I'm going to be taking one with my, I have a the little mommy-daughter bonding. But this one was just for me and my son. And man, that element of surprise for him, that energy just carried throughout our entire trip. Like, what an amazing experience for a kid. Like, our parents never did that for us, right? Like, surprised us with a trip like that.
SPEAKER_00:You know, like, my mom did it for us. Like, I remember one Christmas where, like, our Christmas gift was a trip to Disney. And so you guys didn't know. So Christmas morning, we, like, opened up our gifts and our gifts were actually like tickets to Disney and then like some like matching clothes like Disney you know shirts and stuff like that so we knew like a day in advance um that we were gonna go but it was like Christmas morning surprise like here's your gift we're gonna leave tomorrow after Christmas dinner with the family and things like that
SPEAKER_02:honestly I love that it's the best just like now that I've done it and like I don't it's just it's crazy to think about like I'm getting just such a different um point of view now that I'm mom myself on these things like I just think about your mom and like the time that it took for her to plan that yeah the money that it took to buy tickets for all of you guys to go the excitement that your mom must have had to give
SPEAKER_00:that to you guys and see you guys open and see your
SPEAKER_02:reaction like
SPEAKER_00:the reaction is everything like you know it's like that's how you really know like I even did that for my mom one year like but it Did you surprise her with... It was the same thing. We're a Disney family. You know, we're total, total Disney people. So like I did that for her for Mother's Day. So you
SPEAKER_02:like paid it back. Yeah, I totally did. What she did for you as a kid for her.
SPEAKER_00:And it was so awesome because I, it was right after COVID. And it was like during like the first weeks that it was opened after that. And there was only like a 25,000 person capacity at the parks. It was almost like eerie, like how empty the parks were. It kind of felt like we were there by ourselves. And, you know, my mom and I were We're big Disney people. So we like to get up early and do the rope drop. And, you know, we usually are running to like, you know, get in front of the crowd and stuff like that. But like I said, with that capacity, it was so cool because we'd be like walking through Fantasyland. There'd be nobody there.
SPEAKER_02:See, that's the only way I would go to Disneyland. Well,
SPEAKER_00:you'll never go.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I know. I mean, like, yeah. I can't with the... As much as I love Disney and I know you're like a Disney fanatic and stuff and you guys love Disneyland, I can't. I am now at a point in my life when I take a vacation, when I take time off, I opt for peaceful places. I can't do the really large lines, the groups of people. That's not how I would want to choose to spend my time, which sucks because I love Disneyland and I would love to experience it. I just think... Over the years, they've allowed it to get way too crowded, and I wish it wasn't like that.
SPEAKER_00:Well, it's pretty crowded there, and it's almost kind of elitist now, is kind of how I would describe it, because now they have so many things where, okay, well, if you pay extra for this, then you can get in front of the line. Or if you pay this much more of a premium, then we'll take you through the line. I love that. There's all those different levels to it. Now, it's actually kind of funny that we're talking about this. I literally saw a TikTok this morning that was like, I'm poor, but I'm not waiting 80 minutes in line poor. And it shows the person standing there with their fast pass. We're going to slurge if we do it. And it's one of those things. You're either a Disney person or you're not. And I've gotten to the point in my life where if you're not a Disney person, I'm okay with you not coming.
UNKNOWN:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:because it's not fun it's not fun with when you're with people that are like so you know not into it you know what i mean it's like Yeah, you got to
SPEAKER_02:bring the energy. I think that's on any trip. You know
SPEAKER_00:what I mean? It's like if they're not into it, then like you're taking away from it. Yeah, they're going
SPEAKER_02:to bring you down, you know, for sure. But yeah, you guys, just a little more about my vacation. I know a couple people had messaged me on Insta about it. And you guys, the cruise that we took, it was through MSC. They're like their own cruise company. It's, I would say, more upscale, nicer than like carnival cruises, if you guys have ever been on a cruise. I do highly recommend them. I would just say pay attention to... which ship you're booking. Obviously there's a fleet of different ships. And so if you want one of the fancier ones that you see on like TikTok or Instagram reels, you guys, you gotta pay attention to what ship they're showing you. A lot of times they're showing like the most elite top dog, you know, all amenities type of ship. Um, and then you book and you go, and sometimes you're like, well, where's all this stuff I saw?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. You're like, where's that? So, you know, do your research, right? Yeah. I mean, it's same thing, like where we just went in Mexico, like that resort has like three different properties. Oh, it did. You know? And so, you know, Maddie just went to the exact same place. I could
SPEAKER_02:tell she was there and I could tell that it was the same place.
SPEAKER_00:So she, but she went to the, she stayed at the palace and then gained access you know to the one that we were at right so it's like there's always different levels to things you guys and like you got to be specific I am like very very specific when it comes to travel plans when I'm the one that's planning it which is another reason why I love our group of friends that plan all of our stuff now because our friend's husband is also the same type a yeah person as me so I'm like I trust him to plan everything yeah but when I'm planning it like I am doing all the research. I know exactly what we're doing, where we're going, when, all that different stuff. I love that. I love having an itinerary.
SPEAKER_02:Okay, I don't like an itinerary.
SPEAKER_00:You don't? You're a loosey-goosey kind of girl? Oh,
SPEAKER_02:yeah. I'm like go with the vibes type of person. Something else I was going to say about this trip is I didn't– You guys, if you've ever been on a cruise, you know you'll continuously get emails leading up to the cruise telling you that you need to book your excursions. Another, just like a little tip I wanted to give you guys as far as that goes is, you know, these... Companies, they charge a huge premium and they take a huge percentage for these excursions that are in these destinations. When you book it through them, you're going to be paying way more, you guys. And not only that, you're not supporting the local businesses that are in the destination that you're going in. I've gone on many different trips and I've spoke to many different, like, you know, excursion business owners that do different excursions. Yeah. And they straight say, like, we appreciate it. so much when people book directly through us because these cruise ships or these companies, they take huge percentages. So not only are you as the... As the traveler, going to get a way better deal, you guys. Like, for instance, me and my son, we went to Pig Beach. It's called Rose Island. It's a huge thing. I know you guys have probably seen it on Instagram or TikTok. It's all over everywhere on social
SPEAKER_00:media. I thought it was so cool to see your guys' posts with the videos. And I'm like, oh, they're there.
SPEAKER_02:Yes.
SPEAKER_00:It was so cute. You guys, I
SPEAKER_02:highly recommend doing that. If you guys go to the Bahamas, do the Rose Island, or they nicknamed it Pig Beach, tour. It's an island. You have to take a boat out. there to get to it but um We were going to book it through. I was looking at how much it was through the cruise ship email and it was going to be like a couple hundred dollars, I think three or four hundred dollars per person for me and my son. I think my son would have been a little bit cheaper. You guys, we booked it there. When we got there, we booked it literally directly through the company because you get off the port and they have all these different little, you know, setups. Kiosks and everything. Yeah. We booked it directly through them and I paid$115 and she saw I was a single mom and I was there alone with my son. And she didn't even charge me for Leo.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, no way. She
SPEAKER_02:literally, I paid$115 that day. It included, we stopped at three different places. It included the boat ride, like a four hour boat ride. They fed you lunch and you got drinks on the boat during everything. That's awesome. So yeah. Hot tip you guys. Wherever you're going, because I've gone to different places. I've gone to Cabo. I've gone to Tulum. I've gone to Hawaii. This is applied anywhere I've gone, whether I've gone on a cruise or I've flown there. Book your excursion there, you guys. Especially don't, if you're doing a cruise, don't book it through the cruise ship. It's going to be way more affordable. And you're supporting the local businesses when you do it there.
SPEAKER_00:Well, and one of the things that I realized, too, when we were in Cabo is that you truly can kind of negotiate some of these prices, too. Oh, especially in
SPEAKER_02:Mexico. You're so
SPEAKER_00:right. Yeah, if you're trying to do that online, It's just add to cart, right? You pay what you pay. You're not even like talking to a live person where if you have the opportunity to go out there and actually do that, like I was thinking I was going to spend way more money when we went to Mexico than I did. And it truly was because we were able to negotiate everything. Oh, absolutely. You guys,
SPEAKER_02:I wouldn't have even thought that. That's a good tip, Cody. You guys, especially with Mexico, you have negotiating power. It was the same with Tulum too.
SPEAKER_00:So make sure when you're planning this trip to in invite somebody that knows how to negotiate very well if you're not one of those people because it pays. Our friend's husband, he was
SPEAKER_02:like pro-negotiator.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. I'm like, okay, I'm going to be reading a book about negotiation skills before I go on my next trip. But yeah, there's a lot to that and it pays off for sure. It
SPEAKER_02:does. It does. So that was one of the things. And then just in general you guys um i know we've kind of talked about solo traveling before so more on that side of things you guys i strongly strongly recommend whether it's just you or even like you and your child or your children maybe you're in a situation where you're newly single and you're a mom um or whatever the case may be or maybe even just you want to bond with you know you you're married but you want to go and you want to bond with your child or your kids like yeah you guys I mean, the amount of bonding and the one-on-one time that me and my son were able to get, we are going to cherish those memories forever. Not only that, I feel like when you're on your own, it teaches you so much about yourself.
SPEAKER_00:Especially when you're out in a new place. They say growth happens right outside your comfort zone, right? So it's like that is exactly what that is. It's like you're exploring a new place and you're also exploring yourself in a new place too. I
SPEAKER_02:love how you just, sometimes I swear to God, some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth, I'm like, I'm like, who are you? But it's true.
SPEAKER_00:It's so true. It's true. And you know, and I like realized that like, from a lot of the stories that you've told. Because I don't really, like, I truly have not gone on any solo trips. I've gone on a lot of trips lately with, like, you know, all of our friends that are all couples and stuff. So sometimes I feel like there's some solo moments.
SPEAKER_02:Well, for sure, when you're, you know, quote, third wheeling, right? That to a degree is kind of like being on your own, especially for you to traveling with a partner and everyone's all coupled up.
SPEAKER_00:I feel like I've, I have done it a couple of times where like, I'll go early or like stay like later. Okay. To where you do get some amount of time, but I've never done like a full weekend by myself.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. I think, um, I remember a time when that was just not appealing to me and I was just like, that sounds scary and I would never do that. I don't know like i feel like you're either like down for it or it intrigues you or you're just like no not
SPEAKER_00:for me see like i am so down to do like the half day by myself oh okay i think the last like probably well i guess not the last couple that like we've gone on but i've gone like when i went to vegas the last time i had like a whole day by myself and i loved it because i'm like i get to go and well maybe
SPEAKER_02:that's a good way that for our listeners if you guys it intrigues you a little bit but you don't want to do a full-on trip
SPEAKER_00:by yourself you want to commit to the full solo trip do
SPEAKER_02:like Like what Cody's saying, like maybe do something where you fly in a day prior. You can spend some time by yourself or let's say you're doing it with your kids and you're gonna meet up with family or friends the next day with them and their kids. You guys, you can't, I mean, that one-on-one time too that you get with your kids, there's nothing that compares to that. Like it's just a different level of bonding.
SPEAKER_00:I highly recommend it because, you know, on the other side of that coin, right, is like, you know, some people aren't necessarily like loving the solo trip vibe, right? But I also feel like there is such a thing as too big of a group in certain places. Absolutely. And so it's nice to like have that concentrated time. either a day prior a day after with like either that one or two people that you're actually going with or like by yourself like yes to go and do the things that like you actually want to do yeah because when you're on a group trip you're having to
SPEAKER_02:take into consideration what everybody wants to do where everybody wants to go and eat how early or not early everybody wants to wake up or whether you know you're being put on a time crunch you know by certain people that you're with or some people want to go with the flow more some people are more type a that they like everything planned out they need an itinerary you got to be ready by a certain time i
SPEAKER_00:will tell you again we can back it up to to disney right you know because i for reference guys i've had an annual pass for probably close to like eight years um i just recently like didn't renew it like the last like two years but um I don't know. It'll come back soon. I can't wait because I miss it. But needless to say, like I've done Disneyland every which way you possibly can. And I've gone with a bunch of different people over the years. And there are certain people that I would go to Disneyland at the drop of a pin anytime, no matter what, and like not have a worry in the world. And then there's some people that I would, even though I love Disneyland and it's like my favorite place to go vacation. I would be like, eh, I'm good. I
SPEAKER_02:think that's in general and could apply to any trip too. There's just certain people that you've vacationed with that you're like, I wouldn't vacation with them again. Or certain people that you're like,
SPEAKER_00:you know it's going to be a blast. Some people are just not on the same timeline as you. I will say, I know he doesn't listen and whatever. If he does, you know, whatever. But my little brother. I knew you were going to say him. I will never go to Disneyland with him ever like this last trip that we went on, you guys. Mind you, again, like I mentioned earlier, My mom and I are total, total type A Disney people. We rope drop, okay? We are up at 545 getting ready. We are leaving the hotel, the Disneyland Hotel or Grand Californian, whichever one gets us a magic morning, like an hour prior to the time that we should. And
SPEAKER_02:your
SPEAKER_00:brother's just like me. Because we're anticipating the security line. We're anticipating all the different things, right? We're trying to get the most out of our time. And then there's my brother. who his top priority is getting Starbucks before getting into the parks.
SPEAKER_02:That sounds like a priority.
SPEAKER_00:And don't get me wrong. I am the most caffeinated person there is. I am just as frequent of a shopper at Starbucks as I am at Disneyland. Yeah. So I... I'm not objecting to it, but he has no sense of urgency, no sense of time. And so I will never forget this morning that we're leaving the hotel. We're like running out the door. And mind you, my ex-fiancee at the time didn't want to get up early, so she was asleep. And that should have been a red flag right there. But, you know, the more you know, right? Hindsight is 20-20. But no, so my little brother decides, well, I'm going to mobile order Star Yeah. He didn't even hit submit until we were through the security line.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. I feel like that's like a perfect example of just how men suck with shit like that
SPEAKER_00:too. And
SPEAKER_02:like most men, you know what I mean? They just
SPEAKER_00:suck with. Yeah. And then, you know, and then you always end up with somebody that's like feels bad, doesn't want to leave them behind. Let's deviate from the plan. And it's like, well, hold on a minute. Like, He deviated from the plan, not us. Let him wait for it. Or screw the$5 Starbucks. We paid$300 to get into Disneyland an hour early. Let's make sure we utilize this. Yeah, utilize that. Absolutely. But yeah, so needless to say, I'll never go to Disneyland with my brother ever again. Would go with my mom any day of the week. Would go with my cousin Erica and Kyle. They are pro-Disney people. In fact... If we went on with that entire story of that morning, I ended up leaving my family at Starbucks. I straight up left them and said, you want to wait for the... you know, little chocolate, Ericano, whatever the hell he's waiting for, you go right ahead. I'm going to be first in line to rise to the resistance. And sure enough, like Kyle and Erica, they didn't stay on property. So they didn't get to go into the same rope drop line that I was in, but they were like in the front of their line, like ready to go. Okay. I get like a little bit ahead based on like the setback that I already had, but they are like right in line with me. They're like, all right, we found you like this. Not like we're, we're hustling. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah,
SPEAKER_00:okay. We rode like four rides before they even got into the park.
SPEAKER_02:See, and that's a perfect example of how, in general, there's two different people when you go on vacation in general. There's the people that want to make the most of every minute, have a sense of urgency, and then there's the people that just don't care. Yeah. Yeah. I don't necessarily like to follow an itinerary, but I'm definitely someone who's going to make the most of every minute. Right, that's me. You have to.
SPEAKER_00:And there are certain places that an itinerary is relevant, right? you know and then there's some places where it's not you know but again that's where you do your research and you figure out like okay if this is my first time at this destination like is it the kind of place where I need to have an itinerary or not
SPEAKER_02:yeah at least I think it's always a good idea to at least like for this trip I didn't I didn't have anything booked I didn't book it till I got there but we had an idea of what we wanted to do like you definitely want to have an idea of what you want to do but like even when we went to Cabo like saw the jet skis took off on the jet skis you know like sometimes you just see something and you're like oh I want to do that but there's no room for that spontaneity if you already have everything pre-planned and booked that's
SPEAKER_00:true probably one of the best like spontaneous things that I ever did on a trip again it was a Disney trip but they used to have this little like VR like store in downtown Disney and my friends Nicole and Lauren like we went and did this and it was the best$40 I had spent all day this was the most immersive VR experience that I had ever seen in my life like literally like I never
SPEAKER_02:even tried that
SPEAKER_00:this place ended up going out of business probably because they were so like crazy with the overhead and everything but oh my god it was so much fun we were like contemplating doing it like again like right after like let's go back it was like a Star Wars thing too which like I'm not a crazy Star Wars fan but like that just goes to show you like that's the type of like environment like the land that like if it really truly can like feel that like immersive and like realistic like they're doing it right yeah but it was totally something that we had walked by a million times never would have thought to do all the times that we had gone together but the second that we did it we were like that's the coolest thing we've ever done
SPEAKER_02:like yeah like that's always the best
SPEAKER_00:so there was the best out there for sure
SPEAKER_02:yeah yeah how about How about how, like, isn't it cool to kind of finally be at an age where you can also, regardless where you're going, like you can pay extra for those more elevated experiences. Like you were talking about how to elevate your experience at Disneyland. And I feel like there's, there was multiple, um, on the trip that I recently went on, but even in past trips, like when we went on in Cabo, um, there's multiple ways you can elevate a trip. Um, for instance, highly recommend getting like a limo, which is something that we did on the last two trips we went on. I feel like that's a really cool way to elevate an experience. There
SPEAKER_00:are so many things, you guys. Just like, I don't know, it's like a convenience thing. A convenience, yeah. I think that the more that you don't have to think about things on a trip, the better you're going to be. I feel like there are certain trips that I've been on where it's like when it's not planned properly or you– leave enough open to like have to think about things on a daily basis and plan as you go like it almost kind of gives you a little bit of anxiety sometimes depending on where you are in the situation
SPEAKER_01:but
SPEAKER_00:little things like that you know yeah booking the transportation ahead of time think about that you just got off a plane like you just went through tsa you just had to you know figure out where your bag was because it was the last one to come out of the carousel like you know all those things do you really want to have to worry about getting an uber yeah or finding a taxi in a foreign country right now or do you want to get the vetted limit ride I want that one worth
SPEAKER_02:it you guys pay for the limo um I once had somebody tell me too I have yet to do it yet but I hope to um that once you fly first class you'll never fly coach um and that life is too short to not fly first class
SPEAKER_01:yeah
SPEAKER_02:that's something I would absolutely love to do on my next trip um I did this trip like I know these are little things but I just I I I, in my twenties, wasn't at a place in my life where I could pay for these extra things. So these are a big, these things are a big deal for me now, being able to take a limo to the airport, being able to pay for extra leg room on the flight and pay extra, not think twice about it to make sure you're at, you're in row one through 15, not row 39. It makes a big difference. All of these things, like that's, what's cool about now traveling in your thirties is that you're able, you're at a kind of a place where you can pay extra for these, these, um, extra little convenience Yeah. So I highly recommend if you guys are taking a trip doing that, you know, if you're able to, if you have the means to pay for the better seats, get the limo to the airport or from the airport to your hotel or whatever it may be. Well, those little things just help elevate the experience. Well, and I also feel like,
SPEAKER_00:and I don't know, this might make me sound really stuck up, but I feel like you're less likely to sit next to like somebody that you don't want to sit next to in first class. Okay. Have you ever flown first class? I have. Yeah. You have? Yeah. I've flown first class a couple of times. Okay. How was it? It's, you know, I mean, I've never flown first class over like a... you know, not like over an ocean or anything where I think it really makes a difference. Okay, so first class, let's
SPEAKER_02:say like a shorter
SPEAKER_00:flight. Yeah, so I flew first class to Nashville once. And still, you know, I mean, it's the same flight, right? But, you know, you have room. Like, you know, I feel like obviously if we're doing a little two-hour flight to LA or Vegas or something like that, probably not worth it, truly, in my opinion. But if you're going over three hours, it's worth it. Yeah, you want to be comfortable. You want to be comfortable, and you want to be like a lot of times they have different perks with the free Wi-Fi, or a complimentary drink, or a meal if they do that on that plane. A lot of things that you would end up paying for anyway. Think about that. You go and you get that want to get away flight, with Southwest, right? And then you have to pay$15 for Wi-Fi. And then you're paying, you know, another$30 for two drinks.
SPEAKER_02:Everything's
SPEAKER_00:an added fee. And then you got$20 for, you know, a snack at the airport or something like that. That's, you know, almost$100 right there with taxes and you're sitting uncomfortably. So why wouldn't you pay the extra$100 or$200 to be in first class, be more comfortable, and then get all those other perks for free? Okay.
SPEAKER_02:That's it. My next trip, you I'm just going to pay for first class.
SPEAKER_00:The thing is, is that you either pay now or you pay later, right? You know, and it's just like, what do you want to pay for and when? That could apply to life. Exactly. Everything is that way. Yeah. That is so true. It's very true. You know, but I don't know. I'm excited for the next like couple of vacations. I got to find one that I have nothing planned right now. We
SPEAKER_02:need to book. I know I was going to say it feels so weird because we've been going on a lot of trips too. Like right now, obviously coming back from mine, it feels weird not having another one booked. Yeah. Like I'm kind of, I mean, we've talked about we're on that vibe, the yes year, the year of travel.
SPEAKER_00:It's kind of weird. Where do I want to go next?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, we need to book one. We definitely have to go on at least one or two more. By the end of the year.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, we absolutely do. So I don't know. Maybe you guys can DM us or let us know where we should go. I mean, you obviously know where we've been. So give us some ideas. Give us some like inspo. What would be like a good little bestie trip for us? And I don't know where you guys would want to see some content from, but...
SPEAKER_02:Oh, there you go.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, because I mean, Lord knows we have it. I mean, we're fun people on a trip.
SPEAKER_02:Yes. And I feel like too... The vacation high that you get after you come back from a vacation is such a real thing. It really is. Like I've been just riding this cloud of like gratitude and happiness since I've come back.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Honestly. It's just like a reset of like your mood and like your energy. I feel like, I feel like when you get to like, it's the buildup of the trip and then you go and you're there and you're enjoying it. You're relaxed. You're doing all these things. And then like you come back and it's like refreshed.
SPEAKER_02:Yes. Even remember when we went to Mexico. Like remember how happy we were and how like it was just all of us. Oh my gosh. Especially when you have a really good vacation.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. You know what else I would say about that too? And I don't know if you're like this, but I'm like this. On top of getting ready for the trip. Like I, before I leave, like I make sure that my house is as clean as it possibly could be. Like I'm talking fresh sheets, like empty, you know, dryer, nothing in the dishwasher. So that it looks like I'm coming back to a brand new house. Yes. No
SPEAKER_02:dirty laundry. Cause you know, you're going to have to come back. You're going to have to unpack. You're going to have to do all your laundry. Oh, absolutely. No dishes in the sink, all the things, garbage empty. Like you want everything when you come home to be clean. good just to go fresh new energy yep yes new energy yes i think too you guys i don't know i feel like There's so many, there's so many like spiritual reasons to why people feel so much better when they come back from vacations, especially vacations where they're going somewhere like beachy,
SPEAKER_01:you
SPEAKER_02:know, because of like, you're literally grounded in the sand. You're in this water and the sand that has healing microbes in it and all of these different things. And I was reading something recently that was talking about that. And it was just saying that there's more to it scientifically, energetically and all of that than people realize.
UNKNOWN:Hmm.
SPEAKER_00:See, I always like just, you know, I don't know. I always thought of it like just like a renewing of your energy kind of thing. And also like I always feel really grateful for like where we live too. Like when we go to certain places. So true. Because it's like, you know, like as beautiful as some of these places are, like we're in the resorts. We're seeing the highlight reel of everything. Where like a lot of places that we go, like I'm like, I'm so thankful for where we live. Absolutely. You
SPEAKER_02:know? Because you see, there's an ugly side, you guys, to all of these tropical... places or these destinations right um even yeah when we well of course we went to mexico i mean you see it i mean they're hustling out there to try to make a dollar this is how their only way of making money is off of like tourism and things like that and you know you're driving through kind of like slums and tent cities and seeing homeless on the side of the road going even hawaii is the same way um all the hawaiian islands i've been to when you go from the airport to your resort i mean you look on the side of the freeway a lot of those people be Because the prices are so high because it's a tourist destination, they can't even afford to live there. They can't afford rent. They can't afford to buy a house. So it's like-
SPEAKER_00:That'll have to be another episode that we do. I'll talk all about that. Oh, yes. Well, definitely. We've got to get Nicole on. We've got to get Nicole on. I know we do. But yeah, no, it's just crazy. I mean, I feel that way when we go is how beautiful it is where we live here in California. We truly have vacation destinations almost within 40 minutes of us no matter what direction you go and
SPEAKER_02:isn't it crazy how we take advantage like we don't go and i'm sure a lot of you guys because i know we have listeners that um aren't just from around the bay area they're from all over but um i'm sure you guys have that where you probably have beautiful areas by where you live and you kind of take it for granted and you don't go enough even though
SPEAKER_00:well it's crazy like i think about it like you know we've lived you here in this area for 30 years, you know? And like my parents never really like, we never really went to the coast too much. So you guys, if you're not like local or don't really have an idea of where we're from, like we are part of the central coast here in California and we're like, an hour from San Francisco, 40 minutes from Monterey, 40 minutes from Santa Cruz, like, you know, just in every direction from where we are. It's just beautiful vacation destinations that to us are just like, you know, normalized places. And, you know, we're spoiled in that way. But like my brother just moved to Carmel, you know, like probably about two years ago. And now we go there like once a week. And it's like some people wait all year to go on their vacation to Carmel and spend a weekend in there, but that's where we're hanging out. You guys
SPEAKER_02:also go to Pebble Beach a lot too. PB, right? That's what they call it. And you took me for my birthday and I don't, I've only been there prior to my birthday, like maybe twice. And like, I want to go back again. Like it was so beautiful.
SPEAKER_00:And it's beautiful. Within an hour where we were. Yeah. So like Pebble Beach resort, it's like, that's one of the most pristine, like sought after golf courses in the world.
SPEAKER_02:You
SPEAKER_00:know what I mean? Like not just in California, United States, like in the world, it's like, like top 10 like you know um and so for it to be so accessible to us and like just be able to go and have lunch over there and see these beautiful um landscapes and beautiful homes on 17 mile drive i mean oh my gosh just
SPEAKER_02:if you guys live in the area and you've never been go go or look up 17 mile drive yeah go take an afternoon take
SPEAKER_00:an afternoon go to 17 mile drive follow the map like go to all the little stops have you ever actually done that i've done not the whole 17
SPEAKER_02:miles, but I've done like part
SPEAKER_00:of it. Oh, see like my ex and I did that once where we legit just went and actually did the touristy thing and like got the little map at the kiosk and went to every single thing. It was so cool. Oh, I got to do that. I got to like complete it. There's so much history there. Yeah. And just beautiful places, but
SPEAKER_02:yeah. Should we talk about, so we talked about like kind of like good vacations that we've been on. Do we have, cause I know I'm sure you have one in your mind. I have one. You guys, you know when you guys go on, there's good vacations and there's bad ones where you come back changed. We talked about being changed in a good way, but where you're forever changed in a bad way. Do you want to go first? Well, you know. Is there one that stands out to you, like specifically in your mind?
SPEAKER_00:There's a couple that I'm thinking about. So you go with yours because I know yours already.
SPEAKER_02:Okay.
SPEAKER_00:So you talk about yours while I decide which one. Okay.
SPEAKER_02:I'll summarize. I'm going to summarize it. Yeah. But basically I had went on vacation to Cabo with an ex that, an abusive ex that I had that was just, the relationship was really toxic and should not have went, but we had already had it pre-planned and I was already like leaving. I had one foot out the door in the relationship already and the engagement and everything and went to Cabo and put it this way, went there, had like, This is where company matters. I mean, I had the most terrible time of my life. Like, you guys, I mean, anything bad that you can think of that happened, like phone dings, you see they're getting messages from another, you know, another woman. I mean, you're finding nudes in the phone. Oh, yeah. Terrible. I didn't know it went that deep. Oh, girl. There was, you know... um you know yeah fights that happen like a lot of arguing um fights that happen somebody may have ended up in the cabo jail for a night um it was just you guys it was literally i i still call it to this day the vacation from hell but you know what it needed to happen you guys um Without getting into all the nitty gritty details, what I will say is that was the final nail in the coffin that allowed me to walk away from that relationship. And put it this way, on the flight home, I literally moved my seat, moved my seat, went to the airport separately and hit up my real estate agent, said, because we owned a home together and we were going to list the house. So she already had it, but it hadn't posted it yet to MLS. We're kind of waiting to do it. So texted her, posted to MLS I landed, opened up my phone. My house was on MLS. Within a week, my home was sold. I moved out of that house, ended that relationship, sold my house, and it was the best thing I could have possibly ever done for me and my children. So some trips... Some trips change you for the better. Some trips are trips from hell, but, you know, maybe are the change that you really need for your life. And yeah, I hope to never experience a trip like that again, you guys. But yeah. That's, that's my terrible trip story. That's
SPEAKER_00:the summary of it. Oh my gosh. That's crazy. You know, so like I, I'm trying to think like I've had, I've never had a trip that was like that crazy life changing, but I've definitely had some crazy things happen on trips where it's like, Ooh, like have
SPEAKER_02:you ever, I feel like you, I don't know, but I feel like you probably have. Have you ever been on a trip where you came back and you weren't friends with the people or person that you went on a trip with after coming back?
SPEAKER_00:um well yeah yeah i mean obviously you know there's some but i would say one of those he wasn't really like a friend to begin with he was kind of a trip friend and then obviously like that didn't work out but we've talked about that story on the park you're probably
SPEAKER_02:like how do i follow this story yeah
SPEAKER_00:no so we won't get all in there with that one but um i would say you know when When you're talking about going on trips and who you're going with and how it affects the time. So the last time that I went to Nashville, I went with a group of friends. And mind you, I've been in Nashville a handful of times. I... know the area fairly well. It's changed a lot in the last 10 years, a lot of growth, but relatively everything is the same, right? And there's a lot of cool things there, a lot of cool history. Like you don't have to be stuck on Broadway going to the same bars every night if that's not your vibe. Like there's a lot of different things to be done. But there's so much to be offered in a place like that, in a city like that, that it's hard when you're on trips with people that have their itinerary and just want to stick to it and leave no room. No
SPEAKER_02:wiggle room at all.
SPEAKER_00:And when you're with a bunch of people and you're with a big group and not everybody has the same idea of what you're doing. And that was kind of how this trip went, where I was actually kind of a late addition to the trip. These three other girls are had it planned and then I don't know how I got added to it at the very end but ended up coming back you know I went on the trip so I was on a different flight this is that one where I Flew first class by myself on the way there. On the way back, I actually almost missed my flight. That was crazy. Our gate changed like last minute and I was sitting there drinking at a bar by myself. And then all of a sudden I hear my name over the loudspeaker and it's all gate 17. And I'm, you know, at gate four and their whole last call, last call. And I'm literally running in my boots, you know, like across the freaking thing. I'm like, oh God, I can't miss this flight. And it was the last flight out too. Cause I had done that thing where I'm like, I'm going to stay. Like until the very last minute and like enjoy it. But very, very good pieces of that trip. Like I said, I came a little bit early and then I stayed a couple of hours later than everybody else because I was on a different flight. And so I went and explored some really cool things that, you know, by myself, went into bars by myself, did all those things, made friends. It was all good. Had a great time. But I'll tell you that when you're on a trip with somebody who is very type A and very kind of controlling of the itinerary, it gets a little hectic.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. You start bumping heads, I'm assuming. Yeah. And like
SPEAKER_00:this one friend that we were with, like it was like night one. She wanted to go out on Broadway and go and do like the party scene. And like, it just so happened that like the other three girls that were on the trip with us, like didn't really want to go out. Like they were tired from the flight. Somebody didn't feel good. Like those kinds of things. So like I stayed out, you know, so then I'm like, okay, cool. Like I'll be the one to stay out with you. And we were out until like two or three in the morning, had the best time. This is supposed to be a bad trip story. Well, hold on. So then, so then the next day, you know, after we came home and we're like telling everybody over breakfast, what a great time we had. Now all the other girls are like, well, we want to go out and do that tonight. We want to do the same thing. And then that girl was like, no, no, I don't want to do that. I don't want to be out on Broadway. That's where all the tourist stuff is, blah, blah, blah. And I'm thinking. We just had a blast last night. We just had the time of our lives singing karaoke in a basement of a bar. And we're walking across the Cumberland Bridge in the rain at 3 o'clock in the morning. And now all of a sudden, you're all clubbed out. You don't want to do it. But again, it just goes to show you some people just want to do what they want to do. And that's it. Sometimes you
SPEAKER_02:have to make sacrifices, especially when you're on a group trip. Yeah. You have to sacrifice like, okay, maybe I don't want to do this, but everyone else does. Like, okay. Sometimes you got to, you
SPEAKER_00:know. But you're like, you know, okay, like we spent. probably a good four or five hundred bucks on these flights right and then another couple hundred dollars on the Airbnb then all the spending money and now we just get to follow you around like no no no like it's not if it was like a birthday trip or like say her Bachelorette or something I'd be like okay cool you get to like call the shots it was not that way but Again, this is a person that is known to try to be the self-proclaimed shot caller of everything. So nobody was surprised. But it was a shitty vibe because it's like, all right, I get it. If you're on a trip with people, Obviously, you want to put in your two cents and like say, hey, this is, you know, what I would suggest or, you know, something along those lines. But then it's like, hey, if you're going to risk putting everybody in a fucking bad mood just to want your way and go to this specific restaurant, like why? Yeah. Like, are you truly going to have a good time if everybody else is not having a good time? Like, why? What's the point? Yeah. So that to me is where when you're going on a trip with people, it's super, super important to like not only plan the best destination, plan the best excursions, all those things. But honestly, it's all about planning the people that you want to go and enjoy that. That's like the
SPEAKER_02:main thing. I feel like that's the main thing.
SPEAKER_00:There are some people that I could go and sit in a parking lot with, you know, and I'm going to have a great time where I can go to, you know, the most expensive excursion in the, you know, Bahamas or like the Maldives or whatever, and probably still have a shitty time because they have a shitty attitude, you know what I mean? If you're with a certain person, yeah. And it's like, so, you know, when you're planning your next trip, guys, like take consideration of who you're inviting. Like don't just invite people to invite people. Know who you're going with. Exactly. And match energy.
SPEAKER_02:Like, come on, match energy. Match energy. Yeah. Like if it's a good vibe and the energy of the group or they're wanting to do something or, you know, it's like, come on, match the energy.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. It's like when I go with you guys, like I know I'm having a good ass time. Yeah. When I go
SPEAKER_02:with... But it doesn't matter where we are, Cody. Like we have a good time no matter what, no matter where we are.
SPEAKER_00:That's what I'm saying. It's the same thing. Like even like with my friend Erica, like I will go anywhere in the world with her. Like I've been on trips where we have like, I've been violently... Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And it was like 115 degrees outside and I'm like deathly hungover. And I still had a good time because I was with her.
SPEAKER_02:You know, like. So moral of the story, you guys, it's not about where you are, it's who you're with. Exactly. Sometimes and sometimes just being with yourself, being with your kids or just being with the right people is all you need.
SPEAKER_00:Yep.
SPEAKER_02:That's it. Yep.
SPEAKER_00:All right. Well, tell us where we're going next, guys. Hit us up in the DMs. Yes.
